Gracias Austin! We just got back from a great weekend in Austin. We were invited down to screen Estilo Hip Hop at UT Austin as part of the Abriendo Brecha Conference which is a space dedicated to activist scholarship aka research and creative intellectual work in alignment with communities, organizations, movements and networks working for social justice. There was a great turnout and even better conversation after which the crowd asked Eli Efi to perform a little something. Eli Efi spit 16 bars and invited everyone there to the show and party the following day, which was a fundraiser for three dope Austin grassroots groups –> Mamas of Color Rising, PODER, and Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition. Organizing for the life and rights of mothers, youth, people of color, and immigrants.
Whenever, I perform or DJ a party where there are 5 year olds and 30 year olds present, I know somebody is doing something right…and that was just the vibe. Eli Efi rocked it and had all the Tejanos rapping in Portugues. Not only were the events great and powerful, but we also got to do two of our favorite activities hang out with friends like Paula, Eric, Martin of Ocote Soul Sounds and DJ Chicken George…who told us where to go for the other favorite activity…diggin for records! Again Gracias Austin!Tweet
